The name Crikvenica was first mentioned on August 14, 1412, in official written documents – in a deed of gift by Prince Nikola IV. Frankopan, through which he entrusted the Paulines with the administration of the castle and church in Crikvenica.

This date has been celebrated for decades as the official birthday of the city. Every year, in honor of Crikvenica, the Crikvenica City Days are organized during this week, featuring a diverse cultural, entertainment, and sports program.
