Lungomare
The Franz Joseph I Promenade, better known as Lungomare, is one of the most beautiful and famous coastal promenades in Croatia. It stretches for approximately 12 kilometers along the Opatija Riviera, connecting Volosko, Opatija, Ičići, Ika, and Lovran. The construction of the promenade began in the late 19th century, at a time when Opatija was becoming a fashionable Austro-Hungarian aristocratic resort, and since then, it has become a symbol of the region.
Lungomare runs right along the sea coast, offering spectacular views of Kvarner Bay and the islands of Krk and Cres. The promenade is surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation, including palm trees, pines, and flower gardens, creating pleasant shade and a special atmosphere during a walk.
Along the path, you can admire impressive villas and hotels from the Austro-Hungarian era, such as Hotel Kvarner and Villa Angiolina, which bear witness to Opatija's rich history. Additionally, the promenade is adorned with sculptures and monuments, among which the famous statue "The Girl with the Seagull" stands out as one of the symbols of Opatija.
Lungomare is the perfect place for recreation. During your walk, you can take a break on one of the many benches overlooking the sea or visit one of the seaside cafés and restaurants offering delicious Mediterranean specialties.
